SUMMARY:
In search of a better life, country bumpkin,
Max Carter headed for the town of Axnay on Paprika Island; hoping to start a new
career as a monster-killing warrior. The island was infested with
dangerous creatures and the warrior's guild there was paying good money to those
powerful enough to take them down. His application was successful.
Delighted to have become a fully-fledged warrior, Max teamed with
up with another low level swordsman, Rico Stanway and partook in his first
successful quest. At last his career was up and running. That same
day, however, a system change at the guild threatened to scupper him before he'd
even got started.
In order to motivate the warriors to kill
more beasts, the powers that be introduced three new rules. One: Warriors
will only be permitted to fight if they're part of a registered team,
consisting of five members. Two: All bounties must be split evenly between
all five team members. Three: Every team must take part in at least four
battles every week. They also increased the value of every bounty.
This meant that every registered warrior would have to work much harder to
continue earning the same income as before. There was, however, a far
greater chance of earning more. A lot more. It was a most
excellent motivational plan.
Unfortunately for Max and Rico, when the
rule changes were announced, the guild allowed the warriors to choose their
own team-mates rather than creating teams of equal ability. Two of the lowest levels there, they didn't get chosen at
all. Consequently, they ended up being saddled with the rest of the warriors
that nobody else wanted.
Dubbed The Axnay Rejects, this team of misfits, including a carpenter who'd never fought anything in his life, a mage
devoid of the ability to shoot straight and a healer living in fear of virtually
everything, looked
very much doomed to fail.
CHARACTERS:
MAX CARTER -
Very much the typical country bumpkin, Max knows next to
nothing about what being a warrior actually entails. He just knows
that he's pretty handy with a sword and that killing beasts sounds like
something he might be good at. Having arrived in town dressed in
clothes fashioned from old grains sacks, he very much fails to look the
part, however. Luckily, having befriended Rico, there's someone in
his life who can show him the ropes and help him adjust to life as a
warrior.CLASS -
Power Blade.
LEVEL - 1 |
RICO STANWAY -
In the few months Rico has been a warrior, he's learned one valuable
lesson. Being a warrior is frustrating, but rewarding.
Because he's a low level, others are reluctant to fight alongside with
him, which means he doesn't get much work. Frustrating. On
the other hand, women find warriors sexy beyond words and virtually
throw themselves at him. Rewarding. Despite enjoying their
attention, however, he'd love nothing more than to shed the promiscuous
lifestyle and find the perfect woman to settle down with.
CLASS - Speed Blade.
LEVEL - 5 |
LEILA WINTER -
Leila's personality can best be described as horrendous.
A lightning magic specialist, famed for a string of mistakes that have
left her deep in debt due to compensation payouts, she's entirely
unwilling to accept that any of her errors were her fault. In
denial about turning thirty recently and likely to turn hostile should
anyone even dare to mention it, she's not exactly swarming with friends.
The fact nobody wanted her on their team came as no surprise to anyone.
CLASS - Lightning Magic
Caster.
LEVEL - 29 |
SOFIA NICE -
Very much in keeping with her surname, Sofia is the
nicest person you could hope to meet. Terrified of virtually
everything, including confrontation, she couldn't be more accommodating.
She's also an extremely talented healer. Despite being only twenty
years old, she's already mastered every healing skill in existence.
Her new team-mates simply cannot understand why this meek and polite
master-healer wasn't every other team's first pick. Upon taking
her into battle for the first time, however, they soon find out why.
CLASS - Healer.

TOMMY BRIGHTLINGSEA -
Tommy's mother desperately wanted him to become a
warrior. Unfortunately for her, he had no interest in it
whatsoever. As a teenager, however, he registered as a warrior,
just to stop her moaning at him. He hadn't been back to the guild
since. Instead, he'd pursed a career in carpentry. A change
in the law, forcing all registered warriors to hunt on a permanent
basis, therefore, was a horrifying development for Tommy. Now in
his mid 30's, he's starting anew with a career he doesn't even want.
CLASS - Technician.
